Ofrenda for Frida I
mixed media assemblage

Ofrendas are created in the Mexican traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead. A typical ofrenda will include a picture of the deceased, and items associated with them. Sometimes paper marigolds and other types of tissue paper flowers are used. In these miniature Frida Kahlo ofrendas, I have used turquoise and coral stones, images of her paintings, and a picture on the back of Frida with Diego Rivera, the great love of her life. Calla lilies occur in many of Rivera's murals and paintings, and I have used these in the ofrenda for this reason.
